FAQ

Where are you based and do you travel?

Let's start with I LOVE to travel!
I'm based in Rowlands Gill, North East England. For 'normal' sessions I work within a 10 mile radius of here. I am happy to do a session ANYWHERE, but there will be a small travel charge. Let me know where you're thinking and I will let you know!
Events, travel/ distance will be discussed at time of booking.

Do you do newborn Photography?

Yes I do! I photograph newborns in the same way that I photograph other children and their families; natural, authentic and in their own environment. So I don’t do the wrap/swaddle/beanbag/hat/hanging cocoon shots that you may have seen on other photographers’ websites. The best time for a newborn shoot is between 2-4 weeks although we can do it at anytime up to around 6 weeks.
Don't despair if your baby is older! Because this isn't a "posed" session, baby is usually in arms, so age isn't too big of a factor. They are more alert after about 6 weeks, and that too brings its own special moments to capture.
Sometimes I get busy, so it always best to book your newborn session as early as possible to avoid disappointment. However, I aim to be super flexible and will always try my best to accommodate, no matter how last minute.

Do you take traditional posed shots?

Yes, I will spend some time taking some relaxed portraits of you together as a family, as this can be an important record for you too. That being said, I spend more time letting the action happen naturally and capturing the moments as they unfold.

I'm worried about how I look... I'm too... (insert unpleasant adjective here)

I wish I had a pound for every time a mum had said this to me! It’s totally natural for us mums to feel a little insecure about how we look, or the fact that we’re still carrying a bit of baby weight. I think it’s so important that mums appear in their family photos.

I pride myself on making the most camera-shy of mums (and Dads) look fantastic. I give you tips before the session on things to do when I’m shooting to make you look great, and I guide you towards the most flattering light before I start shooting. And please don’t wait to have a family photo shoot until you’re back to your pre-baby weight; your kids (and you) really won’t care if you’re carrying a few extra pounds when they look back at these beautiful photos in years to come!

What if my child doesn't behave, listen, smile... What if they are a nightmare?!

I think all parents worry about this, I know I do whenever I have my family photographed!

The great thing about my style of photography (lifestyle photography as it’s known) is that it takes place outside or at your home. So instead of your children feeling under pressure in a hot studio, they can run around to their heart’s delight! I pride myself on getting the best out of each different personality.

I send you a questionnaire all about your family and find out all about your children so I know how to get the best possible photos of them. Although shoots are time limited, I don’t clock watch. So if your little one decides to throw a mega wobbly half way through the session, it’s no problem. I’ll just start shooting again once they’ve cheered up!

What happens if it rains?

Living in the North East of England this is a very valid question! If I decide on the day of the shoot that the weather is unsuitable then we can reschedule at no extra cost. Don’t despair if it’s not 25 degrees and sunny! An overcast day is absolutely fine and actually the most flattering light to shoot in. It’s just if it’s pouring down that we may have to reschedule.
I'll get in touch the day before/ morning of the shoot (after consulting the weather forecast) and if it looks like rain we can either reschedule (if you're keen to have some photos outside) or go ahead. We can still get a fantastic variety of photos in
your home and kids in wellies, jumping in puddles, are very photogenic! (Providing it's not a torrential downpour of course!)

What do I wear?

Exactly what you like – you all want to look and feel like yourselves. As a guide simple clothes tend to work best and avoiding logos, busy patterns and stripes is preferable. Layering works really well for creating different looks and a change of outfit can be a good idea for very little ones.
I am always happy to talk wardrobe, so send me a message if you are unsure. My number one tip... chose what mum is wearing, then go from that!

What should I bring?

It's great if you can bring along some of your child's favourite toys, games, balls, bubbles – anything that you enjoy doing together as a family. Snacks are also a good idea for bribes... I mean... to boost your child's energy levels.

When will we get our photos?

Your will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within maximum 2 weeks (sometimes less depending on the season). You can download all the photos from the gallery but also share them and choose your favourites.

How many pictures will we receive?

Depending on your package length, I will always deliver over the amount of your package to give you the ultimate choice of what you want to remember. There is an add on option to purchase more pictures or the whole gallery should you wish to.

How do I book?

Send me an email or message me through my social media and we can decide what package suits you best and pick a date! It's as easy as that! So what are you waiting for? Drop me a line now and we can get started planning your session!
